Group Project

Our Collaboration Wiki

To appreciate how the body functions it is helpful to understand the nature and properties of water in the body. Water is the largest component of the human body: 50 – 70% of the body’s weight (about 10 gallons – 40 liters). Lean muscle contains more water than adipose tissue …. so …. as fat content increases total body water decreases towards the 50% mark.

Depending upon how much fat has been stored, an adult can survive for about 8 weeks without eating food but only a few days without drinking water. In a desert environment a person would not survive for much more than a day without water. Not because water is more important than carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, or vitamins. Rather it is because the body has no storage mechanism for water.

The goal of this group is to (briefly) explain the several key roles and functions of water in the body and demonstrate (briefly) the effects in the body when imbalances in water occur.

Hi Fran--

I like the commercial. I actually saw it on TV the other night and had a deja vous moment. I personally would like more information about the Paint Splatter. I am not sure how it works. You can write to the education department of Wet Paint and request removal of the ads. Search the WetPaint website for education. Not sure where I found it. Interesting communication site. Didn't see your evaluation tool? Have fun.
